Short story inception
It's remarkable how far the evolutionary track has regressed. A people once thought, by other races we've come across, to be the descendants of a mighty and powerful god. Just look at what has become - rather, could become - of us.
Our archives are well documented of this expedition turned into experiment, yet it has somehow become lost in the minds over the millenia. If one did not know of this turn of events, one's head could possibly explode at the idea that we are linked to this species through blood.
A species of primordial instinct creating gutteral sounds for communication, rather than the intellectual reverberations that has been termed "telepathy". The balance of nature and respect - even for others - has all but disappeared. Brutal killings of the life that is on this planet for what they consider eating for "survival", as well as waging wars upon eachother due to misinterpretations - something of which would never happen if their ability of 'telepathy' was never lost. There is also a certain degree of seperation from life itself - something we in the field have found to be psychologically stimulated due to the creation of 'cities', something we as a race had never dreamed upon or even conceived until now. They live with no regard of life, even their own.
Many have formed theories as to what stimulated this regression. One being that our diplomat, the first sent, had gone mad due to the intensity of the nearby star, and others with him. Others say that the elemental properties in and surrounding this planet had a propensity to alter the chemical and physioligical properties spurring this regressional state. Another far fetched is the work of mind control - some devious species playing things out for their own twisted enjoyment of decay, destruction, and, to put bluntly, evil. For lack of anything else, we simply do not know. It was far too late when we had returned for retrieval. The situation had simply gone too far.
But, as stated, this has become an experiment. Watching, as they call themselves the "human race", from afar has not only become a duty, but a lifelong attempt at understanding 'what happened?' To be fair, even with our intellect we cannot comprehend what possibly went wrong. So, as it is, scientifically we must study and attempt to prevent this regression from happening again - as this case is isolated - for the sake of our race and universal existence.
